Factores de riesgo cardiovascular en conductores de una empresa en Bogotá-Colombia

Objective:  To determine cardiovascular risk factor prevalence in drivers of a Company in Bogota. Methods:  Cross-sectional study, through a probabilistic sampling which involved 75 men drivers of large distance of a company in Bogota. Risk factors included lifestyle, measured through STEPSwise instrument, and a physical examination was made, which included:  Weigh and size to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC), through standardized techniques.  Fruit and vegetables consumption, obesity prevalence, physical activity level, alcohol abuse, and tobacco were analyzed. Cardiovascular risk criterions were determined parting from international standards for adults. Results:   51% of the sample are between 41 and 50 years age; most of them holding High School education, (55%), and 79% considered has mestizo. According to the BMI 85% shows overweight and obesity, and WC, 89% suffers from abdominal obesity.  Regarding physical activity practice, a low level was found in 82% of drivers. In terms of alcohol and tobacco consumption, 68% reported consumption of alcohol at least one time on special days during the last year; and 27% currently consumes any tobacco product. Finally, a low consumption of fruit and vegetables were presented in 100% of the study population. Conclusion:  The studied population presents a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors.
