World nutrition—the great breadfruit source

1994
Since the seventeenth century, it has been known widely that the breadfruit tree is a prolific producer of a starchy staple in the tropical diet. The history of breadfruit is traced from the South Pacific to the Caribbean. Advances in technology which make this seasonal and perishable prolific fruit amenable to all year long consumption are discussed and the utilization of breadfruit flour supplemented with protein products such as soy flour is promoted to help increase the survival of the starving in the modern world.
