Deformation of intruder bands in 179Ir
1994
Abstract Level lifetimes for the low-Ω π h 9 2 and π i 13 2 intruder bands in 179 Ir up to spin 37 2 and 49 2 , respectively, have been determined using the recoil-distance and Doppler-shift attenuation methods. The results reveal that transition quadrupole moments of the i 13 2 band are almost 30% larger than those of the h 9 2 band. Furthermore, there is no indication of rotational stretching. Lifetime results and total Routhian surface calculations are discussed in conjunction with the deformation-driving effects of the different proton orbitals.
