New Concepts in Maxillofacial Bone Surgery

1977
This book consists of 194 pages with 183 figures and 36 tables, produced by the efforts of its editor, Bernd Spiessl and 15 contributors. It is attractively bound and well illustrated. The type is clean, easily read, and on paper of good quality. The book is expensive ($64) for its size and content. The volume is divided into five sections covering an extensive clinical and investigative experience of the authors, with a major thrust aimed at the use of rigid internal fixation for absolute immobilization of mandibular segments. Section A, "Transplantation of Autogenous Bone," describes the histological structure of autogenous bone grafts, their fate after transplantation, and their use in maxillofacial surgery. Neurovascular microsurgical anastomosis of composite rib and muscle segments is also described in this section as a promising procedure. Section B, "Traumatology and Reconstructive Surgery," is mainly devoted to the use of rigid internal fixation of mandibular fractures
