Preparation of 3-hexyn-1-ol

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, which is intermediate for perfumes, with a high efficiency in a simple device, by reacting 1-betyne, 2-butyne, or 1,2-butadiene with an alkali metal or its compound in a hydrocarbon solvent in a specific process without isolating an alakali metal butynilide. CONSTITUTION: (A) 1-Butyne, 2-butyne, or 1,2-butadiene is reacted with an alkali metal or its compound in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent to give an alkali metal butynilide, which is reacted with ethylene oxide in the presence of liquid ammonia and the solvent to form an alkali metal alcoholate of 3-hexyn-1- ol. The ammonia is then separated from the reaction system, and the alcoholate is hydrolyzed to give 3-hexyn-1-ol. COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
