Development of scintillation LXe/LKr electromagnetic calorimeter with wavelength shifting light collection
1996
Abstract A new principle of light collection in long calorimetric cells filled with noble liquids is developed. A scintillation electromagnetic calorimeter with liquid xenon and krypton as working media has been built in ITEP and tested at the ITEP and MIT (BATES) accelerators. The energy resolution is σ E /E=5%/ E for electrons of energy 100–350 MeV with LXe filling; the coordinate resolution is 0.7 cm; the time resolution for a single cell is 0.6 ns. A light collection technique with the use of a wavelength shifter is described.
