Travel time predictions in urban networks

2002
Systems requiring predictions of travel times include in-vehicle information, collective and individual dynamic route guidance, congestion management and incident detection. This paper extends the above to include travel time predictions to lane closures for construction and maintenance. The algorithm used relies on the real time dynamic data obtained from sensors and uses macroscopic traffic input-output model for calculating delays and consequently travel times. The well known CORSIM simulation model developed by the Federal Highway Administration has been used to test and verify the algorithm.
