Modified zeolite catalyst used for recycling waste plastics material, comprises zeolite having sodium oxide and optionally transition metal

2010
NOVELTY - A modified zeolite catalyst comprises a zeolite having sodium oxide (Na2O) content of less than 0.1%; and optionally transition metal at 0.1-75 wt.%. USE - Modified zeolite catalyst used for recycling waste plastics material (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The zeolite catalyst has reduced unit cell size and Na2O content, and provides method of hydrocracking or pyrolyzing waste plastics which utilizes milder reaction conditions, e.g. lower reaction temperature, lower reaction pressure and/or for shorter reaction times than conventional processes. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a preparation of modified zeolite catalyst comprising obtaining zeolite Y catalyst having sodium oxide (Na2O) content of 2-4%; optionally mixing zeolite with ammonium salt solution at 50-85 degrees C for 10-60 minutes; mixing zeolite with ammonium salt solution at 60-100 degrees C for 60-240 minutes; steam calcining zeolite at 450-800 degrees C for 10-60 minutes; mixing zeolite with ammonium salt solution at 50-95 degrees C for 10-120 minutes; and optionally mixing zeolite with a transition metal salt solution;and (2) recycling a waste plastics material comprising introducing into reactor a waste plastics supply and a modified zeolite catalyst; optionally introducing solvent into a reactor; optionally purging the reactor with an inert gas; introducing an inert gas into the reactor, or alternatively introducing hydrogen gas into reactor, and pressure of inert gas or hydrogen gas is 1-100 atm; optionally providing mixer for mixing waste plastics supply and the catalyst; and heating reactor at 150-500 degrees C for 1 minute-4 hours.
