ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND APPROACHES TO COMMUNICATING WITH MENTALLY ILL PATIENTS

Based on a brief analytical overview of the classical models of doctor-patient relationship and self-monitoring, there are some specifics in the approach to ill patient in psychiatric practice. It is pointed out that the principle of individualization - in the awareness of the disease and the therapy becomes particularly important. The working therapeutic union between a doctor / psychologist and a patient occupies a priority function. The high value of confidential information and strict adherence to medical secrecy are irreplaceable elements in this process. At the same time, from the standpoint of legislation, the application of coercive medication should not be neglected. The predominant role of prevention of suicidal intent and suicide in psychiatric patients with various diagnosis is particularly important.
