La explotación de la pizarra como contexto de aprendizaje para ayudar al alumnado de bachillerato a entender las relaciones entre minería y sociedad

Nowadays, knowledge of mining and its environmental consequences is essential to allow high school students to understand and to adopt a position in very important social discussions. One of these topics could be being in favour or against mining. In this case, although there is a general agreement about the necessity of this industry, the debate is focused on two main points. On one hand, the difficulty of requiring the big mining companies to comply with all the regulations and to reduce their environmental impact. And on the other, the difficulty of demanding a strong action from the public powers to ensure compliance. The main objective of this work is to improve the teaching of the topic described above. This didactic proposal centers on a visit to a slate exploitation facility located in Carballeda de Valdeorras (Ourense). Based on this visit, and in order to carry out an in situ analysis of its influence, its importance within the area is studied in a systematic way, including its social, economic and environmental impact. This proposal is structured in four different phases, and it is aimed at upper secondary school students
