Persistent antimicrobial efficacy of 2% chlorhexidine skin disinfectant by ASTM test method.

OBJECTIVE To assess persistent antimicrobial efficacy of 2% chlorhexidine skin disinfectant.METHODS American Society for Testing and Materials(ASTM) test was used to assess the baseline,10 min,dd 1,2,5 and 7 after the disinfection of chlorhexidine skin disinfectant.The antimicrobial efficacy of the skin was checked out.RESULTS The skin flora of baseline was 2.15 Log10 while the average values of 10 min,dd 1,2,5 and 7 after skin disinfectant were 0.41,0.61,0.79,1.02 and 1.49 Log10,respectively,all were below the baseline(P0.01).CONCLUSION The 2% chlorhexidine skin disinfectant has a 7 day persistent antimicrobial efficacy after the determination by ASTM test.
