LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® in 1–1 Coaching

2021
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP), a group-work tool that facilitates innovative thinking and harnesses creative problem solving. It is also an empowering tool for strengthening workplace teams. Models are built in response to a facilitator’s questions, reflections are shared, with decisions taken on emerging strategies. Applying LSP in a positive psychology framework (LSP4PP) brings a more holistic approach, taking the focus beyond Lego bricks, to facilitating meaning making and improved wellbeing and performance. Research and practice have now extended this concept and applied it to individual coaching, providing evidence that Lego can be more than a team tool, but rather an enabler to create new awareness and insights in a psychologically safe environment, where ideas can emerge in a way that allows the coachee more time to think, reflect and allowing the coaching conversation to open up and deepen. This chapter explores the processes of LSP4PP using the Triple-E method, concluding with a case study to outline the techniques, applications and processes of LSP4PP in 1–1 coaching.
