A process for producing a profile with varying cross section

The present invention relates to a method for making an elongate profile with a varying cross section in the longitudinal direction. In the method, an elongate metal strip, which comprises two strip edges, profiled in a first shaping operation to a semi-finished profile. Subsequently, the semi-finished profile sections, characterized in a second shaping operation such that at least two sections are offset from each other in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal extension of the semi-finished profile. According to the invention it is provided that the metal strip is trimmed before the first shaping operation such that it has a varying width in the longitudinal direction.
