Valuing and respecting colleagues

I am writing in response to your recent round table article entitled ‘How should the profession address workforce shortages?’ ( VR , 29 September 2018, vol 183, pp 374-377). I must express my disappointment at reading some comments from supposed leaders of our profession and the subsequent decision by Vet Record to print them. Clearly it is an important debate but I believe several comments should have been edited out before publication. For example, ‘In the vet world … it’s girls from private schools’. If we are discussing veterinary candidates, they must be over the age of 18, and if we are discussing graduated vets specifically they are at least 23 years old.
