An investigation on food borne pathogens and its antibiotic sensitivity isolated from tilapia in Guangxi during 2011-2012.

2013
【Objective】The species of food borne pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity in tilapia in Guangxi were investigated to provide useful information for monitoring and controlling food borne diseases.【Method】Two hundreds tilapia samples were collected from tilapia farms and markets of the main tilapia production area in Guangxi during 2011-2012.The strains of Salmonella,Shigella, diarrheogenic Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Listeria monocytogenes,Vibrio parahaemolyticus,Streptococcus agalactiae,Streptococcus iniae and pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila among tilapia samples were isolated. The strains isolated from tilapia samples were identified by BIOLOG automatic microbiological assay system, and the antibiotic sensitivity tests of them were carried out according to the K-B method in performance standards for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute(CLSI).【Result】A total of 6 among 9 monitored food borne pathogens were found. In samples from tilapia farms,Streptococcus agalactiae and pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila had higher positive rate(7.5% and 5.0%) than other pathogens.Streptococcus iniae,Salmonella,E.coli O157:H7 and Shigella were 3.3%,2.5%,1.7% and 0.8%,while in samples from markets,Streptococcus agalactiae,Streptococcus iniae, pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila and Salmonella were found, and their positive rates were 2.5%,1.3%,1.3% and 1.3%,respectively.The strains isolated from tilapia samples had different sensitivity and resistance to 15 antimicrobial agents.Cefoperazone had the highest sensitive rate(56.7%),while laevomycetin, fradiomycin and cillimycin had the highest resistant rate(63.3%).【Conclusion】There existed food borne pathogen contamination in tilapia in Guangxi mainly with Streptococcus agalactiae and pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila, and all strains isolated from tilapia had multiple antibiotic resistance.
