MINNESOTA'S EXPERIENCE IN IMPLEMENTING THE USE OF RECYCLED MATERIALS

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) has taken a lead role in implementing recycled materials in transportation applications. The ultimate goal has been to include a provision of for recycled materials in Mn/DOT specifications and encourage their use at an optimum level within the limits set by the specification. The paper highlights three recycled materials used by Mn/DOT: recycled asphalt pavements; manufactured or post industrial asphalt shingle scrap; and reclaimed glass.
