The article examines the main ideas of Graecophiles, one of the trends of Russian traditionalism of the XVIIth century. The author defines the term traditionalism as a trend of thought with the ideals of the past. At the same time, traditionalism didn't take the whole past, consciously or not it selected the components of tradition. In Russia in the XVIIth century traditionalism consisted of two schools. One of them, Zealots of antiquity, was based on national experience and authorities and rejected any foreign ones. Graecophiles followed the east orthodox traditions. Both of them appreciated continuity more than something else. The author pointed out that Russian culture of the XVIIth century was still religious and intellectual thought used religious terms and categories to discuss different cultural problems. The article describes two main discussions and defines Graecophiles' ideas which followed. The discussion of the correction of liturgical rites and books in the middle of the XVIIth century drew a divide between Graecophiles and Zealots of antiquity. Graecophiles tried to eradicate it after Greeks patterns, Zealots of antiquity rejected any Greek authorities. Graecophiles opposed Europeanists in a debate on liturgical details in the 80s of the of XVIIth century. At the same time, they discussed a problem of higher education in Russia whether it should be based on Latin or Greek tradition. Graecophiles tried to prove superiority, the advantages of Greek and harm, the drawbacks of Latin. Special attention is paid to values and authorities which Graecophiles relied on.
