Effects of age and sexual maturation on expression of glucocorticoid receptors and 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase histochemical activity in stallion reproductive tissue

2012
6.1 mM cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin was added after dilution. Semen of both groups was cooled-stored at 5 C for 24 and 48 hours. Semen samples were evaluated before and after cooling by CASA for total motility (TM), progressive motility (PM), rapid sperm (RAP) and plasma membrane integrity (PMI) by epifluorescence microscopy after staining with carboxyfluorescein and propidium iodide. All parameters were analyzed by ANOVA, followed by unpaired T-test. Cholesterol-treated samples showed higher percentages of TM, PM, RAP and PMI at both 24 and 48 hours (P < 0.001) than control samples (Table 1).
