Екотоксикологія – це комплексний науковий напрям, який базується на основних принципах і підходах таких наук як екологія, біогеохімія, відповідні розділи медицини, хімії та ін., об’єктом вивчення якого є біологічні системи різного рівня складності: від організму до екосистеми, які зазнають техногенного забруднення хімічними сполуками, кількість яких неухильно зростає. Цей процес є невідворотнім наслідком науково-технічного прогресу, тому вивчення структури та механізмів впливу ксенобіотиків стає життєво необхідним для суспільства. Екотоксикологія має прикладний характер, оскільки стан природних екосистем, що зазнають хімічного забруднення, є важливим аргументом в процесі прийняття конкретних природоохоронних рішень. Ecotoxicology -is a complex scientific field based on the basic principles and approaches of such sciences as ecology, biogeochemistry, relevant sections of medicine, chemistry, etc., the object of study of which are biological systems of various levels of complexity: from the organism to the ecosystems that are man-made contamination by chemical compounds, the number of which is steadily increasing. This process is an inevitable consequence of scientific and technological progress, so studying the structure and mechanisms of the influence of xenobiotics becomes vital for society. Ecotoxicology is applied because the state of the natural ecosystems that are subject to chemical pollution is an important argument in the process of adopting specific environmental decisions
