Analysis of the characteristics of cardiovascular diseases affecting the survival of patients with lymphoma

2019
Objective To investigate the characteristics of cardiovascular diseases leading to death in patients with lymphoma and to explore the impact of cardiovascular diseases on survival of patients with lymphoma. Methods The basic data of 6 200 patients with lymphoma admitted to Peking University Cancer Hospital from January 1995 to December 2017 were collected, and the patients died with known causes of death were screened out. The clinical records and death information were collected. According to the basic cause of death, the characteristics of patients who died of cardiovascular disease were analyzed. Results Among the 1173 died patients with lymphoma, 935 (79.7%) died of primary lymphoma diseases, 94 (8.0%) died of secondary primary tumors, 75 (6.4%) died of cardiovascular diseases, 32 (2.7%) died of respiratory diseases and 37 (3.2%) died of other diseases. Among the 75 patients died of cardiovascular diseases, 27 cases died of coronary heart disease, 25 of stroke, 7 of hypertension, 5 of sudden cardiac death, 4 of pulmonary embolism, 3 of heart failure and 4 of other cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular disease accounted for 16.1% (35/217) of all cause of death in patients who survived for more than 5 years. Conclusions Cardiovascular disease is an important factor affecting the long-term survival of lymphoma patients, among which coronary heart disease and stroke are the most common. With the prolongation of survival time in patients with lymphoma, the risk of death caused by cardiovascular diseases increases.
