Inheritance of Field Reaction to Rusts and Some Morphological Characters in Bread Wheat

1967
The study was undertaken to determine the mode of inheritance of resistance to black and brown rusts in some of the recently received exotic varieties in the wheat collections of the Division of Botany, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Delhi-12. Brown rust resistance was found to be monofactorially controlled in crosses of E. 4853, and E. 5175 with the susceptible varieties N.P. 875 and C. 303. Resistance of E. 4853 was recessive while that of E. 5175 was dominant. Again mature plant reaction to black rust in the crosses of E. 4853 with N.P. 860 and C. 303 was monogenically recessive.
