Crystallization and structure of hexameric aci-9-nitrofluorene-potassium containing a lipophilically wrapped polyion aggregate [K⊕6(O12)⊖6] 1,2

Abstract Aci-9-nitrofluorene potassium salt crystallizes as a hexamer around a polyion aggregate [K 6 ⊕ (O 12 ) 6 ⊖ ], which in addition is solvated by one dioxane and two tetrahydrofuran molecules. The lipophilic skin C 77 H 72 limits the size of the thermodynamically favorable metal oxide cluster and provides a molecular self-organization principle for the crystallization of analogous compounds.
