2014
“Promoting interventions of mental health literacy of teenagers: A systematic review” BACKGROUND: Mental health literacy was de!ned as knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders which aid their recognition, management or prevention. Internationally and nationally, studies show reduced mental health literacy in teenagers and it’s necessary to develop interventions in schools to increase the level of mental health literacy among teenagers. AIM: We performed a systematic review in order to identify the current evidence available on interventions that promote mental health literacy among teenagers. METHODS: "e research question was stated according to the PICO mnemonic: “What interventions (I) promote mental health literacy (O) among teenagers (P)?”. We de!ned criteria for selec tion of studies. Were selected the keywords that enabled the search. Surveys were carried out in electronic databases during the months of April and May 2013 regarding results for 2008 to 2013. RESULTS: We found 15 full-text articles and excluded 12 articles. We included three articles submitted a#er assessment of the meth odological quality. CONCLUSION: Studies indicate the need to be developed, validated and evaluated interventions in the area of mental health in schools, particularly interventions that promote mental health literacy among teenagers. However, the complexity of interventions to promote mental health literacy among teenagers requires that these be researched regarding development, feasibility/piloting, evaluation and implementation.
