Atleast threepromoters direct expression ofthemouse glucocorticoid receptor gene

1992
Wehavecharacterized thegeneforthemouse glucocorticoid receptor. Thegenespans-110kilobases, and glucocorticoid receptor transcripts areassembled fromnine exons. Expression ofthegeneiscontrolled byatleast three promoters, resulting inglucocorticoid receptor transcripts withdifferent 5'nontranslated exons. Onepromoter iscell- specific, foundtobeactive onlyinTlymphocytes. Theother twopromoters areactive tovarious degrees inall cell lines and tissues sofaranalyzed andarelocated inaCpGisland. The promoter activities areaccompanied byDNaseIhypersensi- tivity sites inchromatin. Incontrast toaconservation of exonintron structure, differences inpromoter organization suggest adivergence between theevolution ofregulatory and coding regions amongmembers ofthesteroid receptor super- family.
