Efeito antioxidante do óleo essencial de Rosa damascena: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract: The essential oil of Rosa damascena has been focus of studies due to its ability to neutralize the free radicals produced in the body. The presence of phenolic compounds in the essential oil of Rosa damascena was shown by some authors as having antioxidant activity. This study is being shown as a narrative literature review. The searches were made having the basis bibliographic data as Pubmed, Scielo, Periodicos Capes and the Google Academico. The search in the basis of the data was done using the descriptors “antioxidant” and “essential oil of Damascena Rose”, in which, after reading all the titles, 5 articles were selected for this review work. The essential oil of Rosa Damascena can be used safely in the aesthetic area, being itself a natural antioxidant that neutralizes the free radicals formed in the body, being able to delay the process of ageing. The major constituents of the essential oils of the rose were pointed out as citronellol, geraniol, nerol, phenyl ethyl alcohol and nonadecane. However, it is suggested the realization of new clinical studies that evaluate the antioxidant activity of the essential oil of Damascena Rose in order to substantiatea more precise antioxidant effect to the aesthetic use.
