Duodenal Switch: Technique and Outcomes

2015
Morbid obesity is a growing and complex problem that affects physical, mental, and social well-being. Bariatric surgery is the most effective method of treating morbid obesity. While not the most common procedure performed, biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) is the most effective. It is the most technically challenging procedure to perform, and the patient preparation and follow-up can be equally as complex. Despite this, the benefits of this technique in certain groups are noteworthy, and bariatric specialists should be aware of its utility.
