Power Quality Improvement for Grid-connected High-Speed Switched Reluctance Drive System

In this paper, a promising solution for grid-connected switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system with improved power factor is proposed. The three-level voltage sourced rectifier fed 4-level converter is employed for SRM operation. It can achieve a boostable and well-regulated dc-link voltage while effectively restraining the power factor at ac mains. In proposed control strategy, the dc-link voltage control loop is omitted by directly manipulating the grid current which makes the strategy more labor-saving in parameter tuning. The operation of SRM and reactive power are integrally controlled by the current decoupling control, which significantly reduces the control complexity and guarantees the fast dynamic response. Besides, the high-speed SRM is just driven by the single pulse signal which conduces to the drop of switching loss and switching noise during speed regulation. A testbench is constructed for the steady and dynamic test of the proposed high-speed SRM drive system. The obtained results present satisfying drive performance and line drawn power quality.
