2021
ABSTRACT
This study entitled “Tourism management and sustainable handicraft development in the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve" is a contribution to the analysis of tourism management in the handicraft shop located in the protected area. The research problem was identified as determining how the tourism management influences sustainable artisan development in the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve. The main objective was to analyze the influence of tourism management on sustainable artisan development in the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve. The study used hypothetical deductive, qualitative, and quantitative research approaches. The study gathered data from documents and field information considering two study populations: on the one hand, the artisans who commercialize their products and, on the other hand, the national and foreign visitors who enter the Chimborazo refuge route. The researcher gave surveys to both populations using statistical techniques such as Cronbach's. This research analyzed the poor management of the handicraft organizations in the handicraft store of the Chimborazo Reserve showing the limited action in the following stages: planning, organization, direction, and control. Through the factor analysis, it was determined that management does not influence sustainable artisan development in the reserve. Finally, a management model proposal was recommended to strengthen its administration, facilitate cooperation between the central public and private organizations and institutions of the tourism sector that will help achieve sustainable artisan development.
