Effect of Atmospheric Stability on Radio Wave Propagation in Evaporation Duct

2018
Evaporation duct is the domain propagation mechanism in the marine surface layer. This paper deals with effects of atmosphere stability on electromagnetic waves propagation in the evaporation duct environment. A popular evaporation duct model and parabolic equation method are used to model the refractivity profiles and path losses at the same evaporation duct height and seven atmosphere stable classes. Numerical results are presented to highlight the evaporation strength influence. This partly explain some experimental results where the higher signal strength corresponding under stable atmospheric conditions was observed even the duct height was not higher than the unstable atmospheric conditions.
