Transport means for transporting elongated substrates by a vacuum coating plant, comprising a rectangular frame (1, 5, 5a) and two groups of holding elements (2) on opposite sides of the frame (1, 5, 5a) are rotatably supported so that each two oppositely disposed support elements (2) with the two ends of a substrate (4) are connectable, characterized in that further at least one holding strip (3) is provided with a group of inserts (2) so operatively connected that the inserts ( 2) of this group for selectively increasing or decreasing its distance to the inserts (2) of the other group are movable.
