MPPT for stand-alone wind power generation system based on hybrid excitation synchronous generator

2011
In this paper, hybrid excitation synchronous generator (HESG) is applied to stand-alone wind power generation system. A two-stage brushless HESG is designed. HESG has the merit of high power density as permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) and good capability of air-gap magnetic field adjustment. The full power converter which is indispensable to PMSG can be replaced by small power converter for excitation current adjustment. The control strategies of system operation are studied. Two tracking methods are based on the optimum power versus angular velocity characteristics, another method is the perturbation and observation of the output power. Then, the model of stand-alone wind power generation system based on HESG is built and control schemes of realizing maximum power point tracking (MPPT) are simulated and analyzed. The software and hardware design is given.
