Effekterna av självkänsla och coping på upplevd stress, mental ohälsa, upplevda krav och upplevd kontroll bland sjukvårdspersonal

2002
The increasing numbers of people who have been put on the sick list during the last years, have in several studies been related to organizational stress. The purpose of this study was to study stress, health, demands and control in relation to self-esteem and coping strategies. 71 women and six men (medical staff) completed a questionnaire with items from Brief Cope,Perceived stress scale, Rosenberg's Self-Esteem scale and General Health Questionnaire. The data showed that high self-esteem leads to lower degrees of perceived stress and higher degrees of mental health, and that self-esteem also contributes to the choice of coping strategies. Furthermore, the data showed that the choice of coping strategies has an impact on perceived stress and mental health. In contrast to former research, coping strategies focused on social support were not associated with stress and mental health.
