Synthesis of multiwall carbon nanotubes in presence of magnetic field using underwater arc discharge system

2020
Abstract In present work, we have used the underwater arc-discharge to synthesize carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Copper rod and graphite rode are used as a cathode and anode, respectively for CNTs synthesis. In addition to the DC current of 50 amp, a perpendicular magnetic field is also applied across the electrodes while producing CNTs. The CNTs are characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR and RAMAN spectroscopy. We have found that the MWCNTs synthesized in the presence of both electric and magnetic field have a smaller diameter compared to conventional arc discharge method.
