LONGER LIFE FROM MATERIALS

1992
This paper describes some new materials that might increase the lifespan of a road pavement. The potential for the use of recycled materials, material usually regarded as 'sub-normal', waste materials (slag, rubber crumbs) and artificial aggregates is discussed. The use of polymer-modified binders, fibres, waste materials, emulsions and combined binders is considered. The design of pavements using innovative combinations of bituminous mixes is also described. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 856393.
