Development and Validation of the Workplace Well-Being Scale

2015
This article outlines the development of a 12-item measure of workplace well-being. We suggest that a broader conceptualization of well-being than currently exists is necessary in order to include social, psychological, and physical aspects of well-being which contribute to optimal functioning at work. Using multisource and multiwave data, the authors developed a reliable, three-dimensional factor structure that replicated over three separate samples. The scale demonstrated both convergent and discriminant validity which was demonstrated by relating workplace well-being with job satisfaction, workplace affect, psychological well-being, subjective well-being, and demographic variables. Overall, the present study suggests that the Workplace Well-Being Scale (WPWB) is a reliable and valid measure and that the workplace well-being construct has important implications for individuals and organizations.
