A case of cat scratch disease appeared with the swelling at the submandibular region

1989
We present a case of cat scratch disease. The patient was a 72-year-old male. He received a scratch from his cat at the right submandibular region.About three days later, he noticed several eruptions at the same site and then a painless tumor mass began to develop. The sialogram of the right submandibular gland showed no abnormality. The mass was surgically removed.Histopathologically, there were focal granulomatous lesions with suppuration and necrosis in the submandibular lymph node. The necrosis was surrounded by a layer of epithelioid cells. The lesion involved the adjacent tissues, that is, the adipose tissue, the muscle tissue and the salivary gland. Microbiologically, acid-fast bacilli or other organisms were not seen by Ziehl-Neelsen, PAS, Brown-Hopps' and Warthin-Starry stains. The diagnosis of cat scratch disease was made on the basis on the clinical and histopathological features.
