Teacher/researcher: Two distinct occupations?

2020
This article focuses on the status and roles of university teachers in France. The first part examines how the status of university teachers has changed since the Savary law of 1984, which created the category of “teacher-researcher”. The second section is a personal account of the professional career of the author, who started out in French university education in 1982. In these two parts, the article criticises the notion of teacher-researcher, which separates the role of academics into two distinct occupations: teaching and research.
