Valoración clínica de la acción psicotropa y antiepiléptica de Tegretol

2016
Tegretol, a new antiepileptic drug, has been tested on 44 patients distributed in three groups: Group A composed of 6 patients to whom only Tegretol was administered, Group B having 31 patient to whom Tegretol was given in association with another antie- pileptic drug and Group C composed of 7 patients whose seizures were under complete control by other antiepileptic drugs but who- se psychic alterations had greatly increased. Excellent results of a 100 % suppression of the crises were obtained; one belonged to Group A and 15 to Group B. Good results of a 75 % decrease of their crises were ob- tained in s:x patients. Six cases had a 50 % decrease. There was no effeet in nine cases. Tegretol also showed a definite psychotrophic action improving the transitory or permanent psychic, intellectual and character symptoms that most of the patients in Groups A and B had. In Group C there were excellent results in two cases and good ones in four. Far these reasons it is thought that Tegretol can serve as the drug of choice in all cases of epileptic syndromes which coexist with psychic alterations. Within our experience Te- gretol seems to be well tolerated and of mi- nimum toxicity.
