P‐134: Marginal Electrodes with Over‐drive Method for Fast Response Liquid Crystal Lens Applications

2010
Over-drive Method for LC lens applications was proposed to improve focusing response time, which utilized marginal overdrive voltages to pre-generate lens-shape phase retardation within LC layer and switched to an optimized driving for stable focusing. In our study, two general structures, homogeneous LC lenses with external and internal electrodes, were discussed. for inner-electrode structures, the response time from relaxing state to focusing state was improved to 0.2sec with 60μm LC layer driven by 15Vrms over-drive voltage and 3.3Vrms optimized driving. Furthermore, the switching times and the over-drive voltages were optimized by focusing analysis and verified by Fluorescent Confocal Polarizing Microscope.
