Lithology Prediction Using a Non-Deterministic, Statistical Approach: Method of Last Resort, or Preferred Workflow. A Case Study From the Greater Burgan Field, Kuwait

Summary Deterministic methods of predicting rock properties tend to be preferred by earth scientists over purely statistical approaches. This is probably due to a desire for the answer to “make sense”. This paper explores the benefits of a purely statistical approach and shows how a linear combination of attributes can closely approximate most deterministic approaches such as inversion and AVO analysis.
