Treatment of relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with aggressive combination chemotherapy almost always results in serious infections associated with severe neutropenia. Despite great progress in supportive care of children with leukemia, life-threatening infections still remain one of the main causes of treatment failure.
