The method comprises the steps of triggering the client to display video information based on source video flow data; monitoring a special effect triggering event for the video information; analyzing the special effect triggering event from the client; determining virtual special effect responding to the special effect triggering event in the candidate virtual special effect to generate a rendering operation instruction corresponding to the virtual special effect; implementing the rendering operation instruction generated corresponding to the virtual special effect for a special effect model corresponding to the virtual special effect to obtain the virtual special effect video flow data bearing the virtual special effect; overlapping the virtual special effect video data into source video flow data; transmitting the overlapped video flow data through a network communication link; triggering the client to display the video information overlapped with the virtual special effect on real time according to the overlapped video flow data. With the adoption of the method, the virtual special effect triggered by a user online can be overlapped to the online video on real time.
