However, thecytopathology profession must continually convince other professionals as well as the government of thevalueofcytopathologytestingcomparedwithothermedicalservices.Wearepaidforourservicesbyprop-erly assigning the correct Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code(s) to each cytology report. Tobriefly review the process, CPT codes are maintained by the American Medical Association (AMA) CPTEditorial Panel; advisors from multiple pathology organizations have opportunity for comment as a coderevision or request for a new code is brought to the Panel.
