Introduction: Little is known about body composition and energy expenditure in the malnourished elderly. Although both fatfree mass (FFM) and resting energy expenditure (REE) are known to decrease in malnourished elders, there is conflicting evidence on the metabolic activity of FFM in these subjects. We aimed to compare the body composition, REE and metabolic activity of FFM in a group of Turkish elders with different nutritional statuses.
