Mechanical and Dielectric Properties of the Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Polymer Blends : Rheology of High Polymers
1961
Concerning the polyvinylchloride (PVC)-HyCar 1411 and PVC-polyethylene blent systems, the optical and electron microscopic studies and some studies on the temperature dependence of torsional rigidity, some mechanical data from stress-strain curves and the temperature dependence of dielectric losses were conducted. From the optical and electron microscope studies, it was confirmed that PVC-HyCar system was mixed homogeneously, but that PVC-polyethylene system was left as a heterogeneous blocky state. From the mechanical and dielectric studies of PVC-HyCar system, it was observed that, with the increase of the HyCar content, the system became more plastic and the flex-temperature decreased and that the ultimate elongation increased and dielectric loss curves shifted to low temperature side.In the case of PVC-polyethylene system, on the contrary, flex-temperature decreased a little with increasing polyethylene content and the ultimate elongation increased by adding less than 5 parts of polyethylene per 100 parts of PVC (5 PHR), and decreased by mixing more than 5 PHR.Dielectric loss curves did not shift to low temperature side in the case of PVC-polyethylene system.
