La Defensa en México: el dilema entre la recesión democrática, la seguridad interior y los retos del siglo XXI

The armed forces have played an important role in relation to the internal security policy of the different countries that make up the Latin American region. The dynamics of power that revolve around its activity can compromise democratic institutions or generate changes in the various spheres of society, from collective security, political activism and business activity, to technological reforms, the defense of natural resources and the fight against drug trafficking. In Mexico this phenomenon played a central role in the fight against drugs and cartels, in which the armed forces participated in numerous dynamics that traditionally are not a task of their competence. The military doctrine, then, argues that it has been fundamental to study the history of the internal politics of the United Mexican States.
