Development Study on CBTC Related Techniques Based on Systematically Analyzing Granted Patents of Hitachi Company

Urban rail transit has the advantages of safety, fast, large volume and high efficiency among all types of public transportations. It is an effective way to solve urban traffic congestion and to alleviate urban traffic pressure. With the rapid development of urban rail transit, technical requirements for communication based train control (CBTC) system which is based on train-ground wireless communication, are becoming higher and higher. The quality of train-ground wireless communication and CBTC system directly affect whether the train can be operated properly and safely. In this context, CBTC has already become a research hotspot of rail operation and control, and many companies or enterprises have conducted in-depth research on CBTC system and have applied as well as been granted many patents during recent years. Siemens, which is a leader in electronic and electrical engineering, has already made outstanding achievements in CBTC system, however, there are hardly any reports on the patent analysis for this representative company in railway industry. Thus, In this paper, a systematically patent analysis related to CBTC for Siemens company has been done, and the technological development outline on CBTC for Siemens has been concluded.
