Microwave-Assisted Sample Preparation for Element Speciation

2014
Abstract The aim of this chapter is to give an overview of microwave-assisted extraction methods used in element speciation. The focus lies on selected elements (mercury, tin, selenium, and arsenic) which show a variety of chemical species and/or toxicological and environmental relevance. This chapter is not intended to give a complete account of papers dealing with sample preparation methods for speciation, but rather wants to highlight possibilities and limitations in the use of available methods and their respective applications. Finally, common or frequently used analytical methods are discussed for selected applications.
