The Status and Economic Burden of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps

Objective:To know the status and economic burden of chronic non-communicable diseases in Xinjiang production and construction corps. Methods:Using two-step model and human capital approach to measure the economic cost of chronic non-communicable diseases according to the data from chronic non-communicable diseases surveys. Results:The prevalence on farm in Xinjiang production and construction corps was 223.1‰. The leading five orders of chronic non-communicable diseases prevalence rate were hypertension,heart disease,gastro-enteritis,diabetes,gall-stone and cholecystitis in 2008. The total economic burden of all was 1.403 billion RMB,the direct economic burden was 1.182 billion RMB and the indirect economic burden was 0.221billion RMB. Conclusion:Hypertension,heart disease and erebrovascular should be controlled. It is very important to prevent and cure chronic non-communicable diseases for reducing the economic burden of individual,households and society. Health resources should be adjusted to improve status of managing for chronic non-communicable diseases.
