For information systems to change the focus from products to clients means identify and determine present and future needs of their clients/users, to conduct, more effectively, its institutional performance, enhancing its competitivity within the market and information industry. A group of particular information needs, corresponding to the asumed role are identified and criteria for the market segmentation for services and products, which are the base for the establishment and categorization of users, are defined. Some elements for preparing a marketing strategy that allows to support clients, attract new ones and improve technically the personnel in contact with users are presented.
